LOFT CONVERSIONS

THE INITIAL PLANNING

A loft conversion can provide valuable additional accommodation without increasing the footprint of the property. The key is making the best possible use of the available roof space while ensuring the new floor connects naturally with the rest of the house.

At the planning stage we consider headroom, staircase position, roof structure, natural light, insulation and the location of services. Depending on the property, the solution may include rooflights, dormers or alterations to the existing roof structure to create the required usable space.

FROM START TO FINISH

Construction typically involves strengthening or restructuring the existing roof and floor, forming the new staircase, installing insulation, windows and services, and completing the internal rooms. Where bathrooms or shower rooms are included, drainage and plumbing are incorporated into the overall construction programme.

Careful detailing is particularly important with loft conversions because space is often limited. Eaves storage, rooflights and well-positioned internal walls can all help maximise the usable floor area and create an additional storey that feels like an integral part of the original home.
